DTS: Voice for the Voiceless
Truth ignites justice.
Now people of passion and skill are gathering to become a Voice for the Voiceless.
This dynamic partnership between photogenX and Grassroots News offers a rigorous discipleship and media journey to stand against injustice and voice the cause of the voiceless through media advocacy initiatives and news reporting. At the end of this DTS, you will know God deeper and be equipped to be able to speak clearly for the voiceless.
This is the heart of the voice for the voiceless DTS: "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." (Proverbs 31:8-9).
Over the years we have spoken for many voiceless people
- from the Amazon jungle
- to children sex trafficked in the USA
- to women oppressed by injustice in North Africa
- to the breakdown in family in society
Our goal however is not just to be a voice but we want to also act in a way that changes people's lives.
At the end of this DTS you will be able to utilize media to tell stories through the Grassroots News platform as well as be able to advocate for the poor, needy and oppressed. You will have measurable skill level that would be able to set you up on a media education path or you could go on with continued mission service.
At the end of the DTS, you should expect to have a practical project identified that will be able to do something concrete for voiceless people. You will be able to initiate a media campaign to provide homes for AID orphans, dig a well for people who have no water, provide sustenance for Christians persecuted for their faith or a myriad other possibilities.
The a voice of the voiceless DTS is just the start of what could be a longer term involvement. If you successfully pass your DTS, these are some opportunities that you could take advantage of including:
- the photogenX Around the World Track run by the University of the Nations. This track in advocacy film making offers the possibility of internships in the film industry through the University of the Nations Film Institute.
- Applying for staff with photogenX or GrassRootsNews under the umbrella of YWAM Kona or engage with Voice for the Voiceless locations in Germany, South Africa, or Latin America.
- Voice for the Voiceless Track - a global journey that documents and exposes injustice to bring awareness and change.
Your daily schedule will be broken down into two parts.
The mornings will focus on getting to know God better. You will receive teaching from top notch Christian leaders from around the world. The topics include but are not limited to "Hearing God's Voice", "The Bible", "Biblical Christian Worldview", "The Father Heart of God", "Missions" etc. The point of DTS training however is not simply to receive teaching but to become personally active in your walk with God through application times, prayer, worship and engagement in various spiritual disciplines.
The afternoon and evenings will be about taking the teaching about God and Faith and learning how to apply them through media skills. You will be taught, coached and mentored in how to be a GrassRootsNews journalist as well as be "A Voice for the Voiceless" advocate. We take a rigorous approach to this training and expect you to be able to work to a time schedule and complete your stories on time.
