Love Reconciles All - from 2009 Around the World Track

We are all aware of this other hurting world. The world where poverty cripples families and mothers wonder how to feed their children. The world of HIV, malaria, airborne illnesses, water shortages and dwindling resources. It’s the place where the slave trade was never fully abolished. Where millions of men, women and children are still held captive year after year to be sexually exploited. That “other world” of systematic starvation and violence where people are forced to leave their native lands to find refuge on foreign soil. It’s the war-torn world. The oppressed world. The dying world that we are all so very aware of.
We have all seen charts with statistics and felt overwhelmed. Perhaps so much so that our brains just turn off. Those news reels ticking on the bottom of our TV screens become just that - news reels. The human element is lost and we begin to create “issues” out of actual suffering. People who are hungry become “starvation”. A million displaced people become a new “demographic of refugees”. War is what happens “over there” and all this definition and brainwave organization helps us to cope with a Gospel of love that, in the end, frightens a lot of us.
But few of us take the actual time and give credence to a silly thing called hope. Yet we, as a community of 17 missionary - photographers from 5 countries, have come to think that this silliness is what we were actually made for.
